Hobo Spider

Spiders, though found in houses, prefer to live elsewhere, such as cracks and crevices, corners, attics, basements behind and under furniture or secluded areas. Most spiders are unseen and their presence helps control other insects. Spider bites occur when the spider is on the defense, such as when trapped in clothing or when body parts enter its area. Mistaken with the Brown Recluse spider, the Aggressive House Spider (also known as the Hobo Spider) can cause a severe reaction in people allergic to spider venom. They can bite with little provocation when cornered or threatened. Brown Recluse spiders are not known to be established anywhere west of the Rocky Mountains and cannot establish permanent populations in our climate. Spider treatments involve creating an unfriendly environment for the spiders, such as preventing them from entering, eliminating hiding areas, and being careful to prevent introducing them inside. American Extermination Plus, Inc pesticide treatments applied to entry sites, foundations, cracks and openings may help to prevent some spiders from entering. Large numbers of spiders could be an indication of other pest infestations.
